Brazil’s Patroness Festivities are a series of events promoted by the Catholic Church to pay homage to Our Lady of Aparecida, the country’s patron saint. The event takes place every year at the National Sanctuary, in Aparecida, a city in the state of Sao Paulo.
The Day of Our Lady of Aparecida is celebrated on October 12, and the party happens in the period close to the date. It goes on for ten days of several celebrations, such as masses, novenas, and musical performances of famous Brazilian singers. Over a million people go through the location during the celebrations.
The National Sanctuary of Aparecida is Brazil’s largest catholic evangelization center and one of the main destinations of religious tourism. Built in 1955, the place is architected in the neoclassic style and its insides are big enough for the celebration of masses for 35 thousand people.
